REVALIDATING YOUR IRATA QUALIFICATION

Part 4.4.4 of the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme states that “training programmes shall comprise at least 30 hours training over a minimum of four days.”.

This means that 2 day re-refreshers are no longer available. All re-validations and upgrades through all levels of the IRATA training syllabus must attend a minimum of 4 days of training. A valid, up-to-date IRATA Logbook must also be presented.

The old 2 day’s of training before re-validation were considered to be the bareminimum time needed for a technician to be able to refresh the techniques and skills required of their current level of qualification.

The change to a minimum 4 days of training is to allow technicians to receive more comprehensive and thorough training in an environment where they can explore new techniques, learn about new equipment as well as changes in policies and procedures, in a safe and controlled environment. The minimum of four days is aimed to benefit technicians – to train out bad habits, to practice manoeuvres that they may not have had to undertake during the three years between re-validations, and ultimately – give them the opportunity to become safer industrial rope access technicians.

UPGRADING YOUR IRATA QUALIFICATION

All technicians wishing to upgrade their existing IRATA qualification must have an current, in-date ticket and present a valid, up-to-date IRATA Logbook.

If your qualification has expired, you will need to re-validate it before you can upgrade. This is per the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme published on the 1st of August 2014.
