I want to upgrade my qualification, but my ticket has expired.

It is vital that you keep track of when your IRATA qualification expires. Technicians who allow their qualification to expire may be at risk of losing their current level of certification.

Expired Level 1

Can I upgrade from Level 1 to Level 2 even though my ticket has expired? I have over 1000 hours logged.

If your qualification has expired by up to 6 months, you need to regain your IRATA Level 1 before you are able to sit your Level 2. Once you have gained your IRATA Level 1 again, you will need to complete the following requirements prior to attending a Level 2 training course:

  • Obtain a reference from the recent Level 1 training company to confirm that they demonstrated good attitude and competance.
  • Attain a minimum of “Good Standard” on the recent Level 1 assessment
  • Complete a minimum of 3 months work experience after regaining Level 1. This shall include a minimum of 150 hours logged.
  • Total logged rope access hours shall be in excess of 1150 hours.
  • Rope access work experience shall be over a minimum 12 months of active work.
  • A minimum of 4 days of Level 2 training shall be completed with an IRATA Member Company.
  • 1 day assessment by an IRATA Assessor.

Expired Level 2

Can I upgrade to Level 3, even though my ticket has expired?

If your qualification has expired by up to 6 months, you need to regain your IRATA Level 2 before you are able to sit your Level 3.

  • Attend a minimum of 4 days of Level 2 training, followed by 1 day of assessment.

Once you have gained your IRATA Level 2 again, you will need to complete the following requirements prior to attending a Level 3 training course:

  • Obtain a reference from the recent Level 2 training company to confirm that they demonstrated good attitude and competance.
  • Attain a minimum of “Good Standard” on the recent Level 2 assessment
  • Complete a minimum of 3 months work experience after regaining Level 1. This shall include a minimum of 150 hours logged.
  • Total logged rope access hours shall be in excess of 1150 hours as a Level 2 (running total shall be in excess of 2150 hours).
  • Rope access work experience shall be over a minimum 12 months of active work.
  • A minimum of 4 days of Level 3 training shall be completed with an IRATA Member Company.
  • 1 day assessment by an IRATA Assessor to Level 3.

Expired Level 3

If you have allowed your IRATA Level 3 ticket to expire and wish to re-valididate your qualification, you will need to arrange a refresher day of training with an IRATA Member Company.

This training should be sufficient to refresh all previously assesses techniques and theory. Where a change to the syllabus has occurred since previous assessment then additional time should be allowed for, to ensure that these topics are covered in training.

  • A minimum of 4 days of Level 3 training shall be completed with an IRATA Member Company.
  • 1 day assessment by an IRATA Assessor to Level 3.
